Lent from which angle?

Writer's picture: Redeemer ShelbyRedeemer Shelby

Lent begins. Forty days of miserable introspection or forty days to turn our gaze and our steps towards God, purposefully. I have no idea where I took this picture but it made me wonder about the complex world with which we surround ourselves.

If you look at the lichen as an invader, as a problem - you fail to see the patterns and colors which it holds. Is it a problem or is it a part of God's kaleidoscope of creation? In different places it might be different things, in some art, in others nuisance. Lent is not as simple as believing we know what we need to fix, it is seeing how God is using us in the spaces which we inhabit and turning our attention to that use of us, to that work with renewed strength.
